By “end of an era,” I mean the end of store-bought convenience. If you’ve never made tortillas from scratch, let me warn you: Don’t.
IT. WILL. RUIN. YOU.
As moms, we’re already juggling a million things—work, family, meals, endless to-do lists. It’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of it all, and every now and then, we decide to add just one more thing to the mix. Something like, “Hey, let’s try this new sourdough recipe! Tortillas, that’ll be fun!”
I wasn’t a fan of making the tortillas. It was tedious. The rolling, the frying, the flipping every few minutes—it took forever. The whole time, I was telling myself, I will NEVER do this again.
Then dinnertime came, and we loaded up our freshly made tortillas with all our favorite taco fillings. I sat down, feeling exhausted, and took my first bite. The flavor… wow. There is absolutely no comparison to store-bought. The soft, chewy texture? Ah-maz-ing.
So now, I apparently make homemade tortillas. They’re perfect for tacos, wraps, quesadillas, or really anything that calls for a soft shell.
And while they take a bit of effort, trust me: the flavor is absolutely worth it. Plus, there’s something so rewarding about knowing I’m feeding my family food I made with my own hands—food that’s simple, nourishing, and real.
